Description
Williams family ancestors settled mostly in Kentucky and Virginia in the early 1600-1700's. There is over 470 years of family history, more than 600 family members, and over 230 marriages listed on our family tree. Our cousin Henry Clay was the great Kentucky orator and statesman. He became a U.S. Senator and served several terms. He was appointed Secretary of State (1825-1829) by President John Quincy Adams.
The earliest ancestors on our family tree are Richard Steele born 1498 in England, John Claye born about 1538 in England, John Mould born in Virginia in the early 1600's, Joseph William Dotson born in Virginia in 1726, Thomas Prather born in the early 1700's in Virginia (name later changed to Prater), Hans Johann Jacob Gabel (name later changed to Goebel) arrived in America from Germany in 1739, and Archibald Colquhoun born in 1760 Scotland.
